THISTLE
POSTMODERN BOTANICA LOOK_02
The starting point for my collection is a flower guide my mother gave me when I was a child. With each change of season, we would go on walks together, searching for local flowers from the guide. My parents immigrated with me to Israel when I was young, and through this intimate tradition, my mother planted in me a deep love for the land. Each piece in the collection is inspired by a different Israeli wildflower and features original prints based on photographs I’ve taken over the years. Through my camera lens, I explored the complexity of wildflowers—their forms, textures, colors, and reproductive structures. I then layered these images with hand embroidery, created silk prints from real flowers, and painted with oil to develop a visual language of my own. The flowers’ shapes also guided the creation of new garment patterns. The result is a contemporary, emotional, and deeply personal interpretation of each flower.

CRAFTSMANSHIP
I combined hand and machine embroidery with "puffer" fabric to highlight the thistle's texture, creating raised, thorn-like motifs. Intricate hand-beading adds sparkle to the purple floral elements, reflecting the flower's delicate crown against its rugged base.

ELEVATING THE OVERLOOKED
This piece honors the wild thistle, recalling school trips where we were warned about its prickly thorns. I was captivated by its striking leaves and vibrant flowers aiming to showcase the beauty in this often-overlooked wildflower's sharp nature.

ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHY
I designed a textile print in Photoshop from my photography, focusing on the thorns and ombre purple petals. I made a repeat pattern and applied it to a 3D model in Vstitcher, capturing the striking details from my school trips in a sophisticated design.
